The Sporting Conservation Council, established in February 2006 and re-chartered in February 2008,
is a 12 member federal advisory committee that represents a broad and balanced spectrum of the
sportsmen conservation communities.
The purpose of the Council is to advise the Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture about
wildlife conservation endeavors that benefit recreational hunting and wildlife resources and
that encourage partnerships among the public, the sporting conservation community, wildlife
conservation groups, and the Federal and State Governments. Council duties include: fulfilling
responsibilities established by the Executive Order 13443 for the Facilitation of Hunting Heritage
and Wildlife Conservation, August 16, 2007; recommending policies or programs to maintain and
restore wetlands, and forest and rangeland habitats; recommending policies or programs to promote
access to hunting and recreation on Federal lands; recommending policies or programs to coordinate
fostering effective natural resource leadership; and recommending policies or programs to fully
incorporate the conservation of wildlife and other natural resources into energy development.
