Facilitation of Hunting Heritage and Wildlife Conservation
President Bush signed Executive Order 13443 on August 17, 2007, to extend a long history of collaboration between hunters and the federal government. For more than 100 years, hunters have built America's wildlife policies in state and federal law by regulating hunting and improving wildlife habitat. Starting with the leadership of Theodore Roosevelt, the modern wildlife conservation movement has become a strong, coordination effort of agencies, organizations, tribes and the American people. At the White House Conference, attendees will engage government officials and leaders within sportsmen’s groups and the conservation community to discuss efforts to promote and enhance hunting over the next 10 years. Discussion topics are available here and will also be provided at the conference. These topics have been developed through a year-long collaborative process between the Department’s of the Interior, Agriculture, and the Sporting Conservation Council. After the Conference on October 1-3, the White House Council on Environmental Quality will produce a 10-year Conservation plan based on the results gathered from the Conference.

The wildlife abundance of America today is sustained by citizens of the United States. Americans have come to expect wildlife diversity as part of their cultural experience and have more than a century of experience supporting wildlife diversity. Our approach comprises cultural commitment, laws, organizations, and financial arrangements that regulate hunting, manage wildlife populations, and raise money toward sustaining continued financial support. These elements of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation will be discussed in depth at the Conference.
Theodore Roosevelt Centennial History What's New?

On May 13-15, 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt sponsored the Governors’ Conference on Conservation at the White House. A century later, the Departments of the Interior and Agriculture and White House Council on Environmental Quality held a reception at Interior marking the occasion. Among the dozens of honored guests was Simon Roosevelt, great great-grandson of the president. Read more link
